STAR TREK WORLD

Star Trek was a big part of my career and dear to my heart. First of all I would like to give a special thank you to Rob Bonchune, who believed in me enough to have hired me for the last season of Star Trek Voyager. The first spaceship I built for the Star Trek world was actually not a spaceship but a probe name "Friendship 1. After this 3D model, that was the beginning of my full time job as lead modeler for Star Trek for five years.


I would like to give a special thank you to the Master Designer John Eaves for giving us the most bad ass spaceship designs. I had a blast building models from his awesome designs. Also a big thank you to Mark Miller, John Gross, Mitch Suskin, Dan Curry, Ron Thornton, Armen Kevorkian and the entire team at EdenFX.

Star Trek Nemesis was the first movie I worked on. Ron Thornton gave me the task to make a 3D model of the Romulan city, which was based on a matte painting made by the legendary Artist Designer Syd Dutton.

About Pierre M. Drolet


Well, I was born in Québec City, Canada, just a few months before Neil Armstrong became the first man to walk on the moon. Yes, this makes me only twenty nine years old and working in the business for thirty years. The truth is I was part of the generation that was influenced by the conquest of space as we grew up watching Star Wars, Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, Space 1999, not to mention the Saturday morning cartoons that I used to love to watch,.


At the ripe age of two I started to draw everything that was fascinating to me as a child from horses to spaceships. During my adolescence I experimented with various medium such as acrylic, oil painting, clay and wood sculpture, and of course the old traditional pencil HB. For the younger generation, remember that back then computers were not readily accessible yet for everyone.


After high school I went on to college and graduated in graphic communication at Laval University. As luck would have it in 1995 I got a job in the video game industry as a Lead 2D Artist. In 1999 there was a big international contest held in Canada that was sponsored by a US-based company which a friend encouraged me to enter. I did so without any expectations, and surprisingly, I won the contest based on three 3D images that I made for the competition. The winning prize was a job as a CGI modeler at Foundation Imagine in Los Angeles... and that made me very happy!


So here we are after fourteen years in California and still with a French Canadian accent. Since I moved to LA I have worked as the Lead Modeler for many companies including Eden FX, Universal Studios and now at Pixomondo with some of the most talented people in the industry. One of my biggest strengths is that I can design and build at the same time. I have had the chance and privilege to work on some TV shows and movies like Star Trek (Voyager) (Enterprise) (Nemesis), Battlestar Galactica, Firefly (Serenity) and many others.


I have built and designed a lot of 3D models of all kind since I started my career in LA. As an individual I usually fly under the radar and pretty much stay out of the public eye, but the funny part is I am pretty sure that many of you have seen my work somewhere somehow... especially if you like science fiction.


For the first time I am finally taking the time to sit down in front of my computer and go through my models collection, and make renders of them for my virtual Sci-Fi museum. As I look back at some of my work and the perspective I had at the time, I realized that some of the models have a story behind them which I would like to share with the fans.


By the way, because I cannot put everything at once on the website as this would require a considerable amount of work, I will add some new models every few months. I hope you will enjoy the Sci-Fi museum and thank you for your interest.

All 3D models have been built and rendered in LightWave. Textures in Photoshop.

I have been working on my book project for over a year. A few months ago, I submitted a copy to Simon & Schuster Archway Publishing. After their review of the manuscript, I received positive feedbacks and good news from this prominent company. They decided to go ahead and start the publication process. The worldwide official book launch is scheduled for this summer in July 2014.
